KOODE(2018) - MALAYALAM

CAST: PRITVIRAJ , NAZRIYA , PARVATHY;

  DIRECTOR: ANJALI MENON

  HELLO READERS!

There are many feel good films out there but this one hits a little different as it showcases a brother – sister relationship. Such ones are actually rare in Malayalam cinema.

Koode is a mystical tale about Joshua and Jenny who are siblings. Jenny suffers from a genital disorder and Joshua is sent away to work in the Gulf(a common destination in every keralite’s household) so that he could support his family economically. He  basically had no choice. Joshua barely talks to anyone and rarely comes to meet his family. He also had to discontinue his studies. Joshua returns to his home after Jenny’s death. Later on , he finds Jenny(or maybe her soul) in a truck that was formerly her ambulance. Only he and Jenny’s dog could see and feel her presence in the entire family. He gets scared at first but later gets acquainted with his sister. Then comes Sophie who is Joshua’s childhood sweetheart and is now a divorcee. She faces a lot of trouble from the society and she isn’t safe from her own family. The film ends with Joshua and Sophie’s wedding and Jenny disappearing forever.

What I’ve written above is just a brief plot but there’s a lot more depth to the story and its characters.

Joshua has always been an introverted and a socially distant human. This was mainly due to the circumstances e had to face during his youth. He  barely had any relations with his family or himself. When he meets Jenny , he explores himself and also understands his sister better.

Jenny is a very extroverted , sweet , talkative and a carefree girl unlike her brother. She does what she wants and believes in living life to the fullest and experiencing everything in life.

Sophie is a divorcee who believes in living life on her own terms and seeks self respect and most importantly , love which was missing in her life.

All the characters and so unique and different and that’s what I think makes them beautiful. Anjali menon’s films always have great meanings hidden in small things and I think this film showed it so clearly.

Prithviraj and Nazriya were one hell of a sibling duo in the movie. They were so cute together. Parvathy was flawless and mature as usual .  Nazriya has got a memorable comeback with this film.

It’s a fact that the pace of the film is slow and a few elements (like the coach Ashraf episode) made it a decelerated film. Overall , koode with its neatly sketched characters and a few stellar performances makes it a god breezy film worth watching but one should skip it if they are  looking for some fast paced drama.

CAST: KARTHI , NARAIN , DHEENA;  DIRECTOR: LOKESH KANAGARAJ    HELLO READERS! Action flicks are just not my type. But this film even made those sense less action sequences interesting. If you are looking for a perfect action thriller then you shouldn’t miss this masterpiece of Karthi. Dilli, is forcefully asked to drive a lorry to carry drugged police men to a hospital though he was just released from jail and is eager to meet his daughter for the very first time the next day. Bejoy, a police officer bursts out a drug racket that is worth hundreds of crores and obviously there are some big people involved in it. To prevent the bursting of this racket , the drug lords have drugged the policemen. The rest of the story is about their 80km journey to the hospital carrying drugged policemen with a black sheep amongst them. The story unfolds slowly and carefully and I must say that this film has one of the most passionate “eating” scenes ever. Dilli’s hunger and the love for food that he ha

BEAUTIFUL BOY(2019) – ENGLISH                                      CAST: TIMOTHEE CHALAMET , STEVE CARELL                                              DIRECTOR: FELIX VAN GROENINGEN HELLO READERS! There are many films which showed addiction and abuse of alcohol and drugs in different ways and in most of them , it’s always been this way- the protagonist stops doing all that he has done before at once like someone has cast a spell on him and its practically impossible for that to happen. The realistic approach to such topics is not very well appreciated by the audience as well. Today we will talk about a film that was everything else but unreal. Beautiful boy is based on the memoirs of father and son David sheff and Nic sheff. Nic lives with David who has separated from his wife and now is married to another woman Karen. Everything about the family was so perfect and so nice. Nic has always loved writing and even got into all the colleges that he had applied for. But suddenly

THE ZOYA FACTOR(2019) - HINDI

THE ZOYA FACTOR(2019) – HINDI     CAST: DULQUER SALMAAN , SONAM KAPOOR     DIRECTOR: ABHISHEK SHARMA     HELLO READERS! Books being made into movies is not a new thing at least in Bollywood. Some end up being great while some end up being disasters mainly because of the changed story line or the extended choice of creative freedom that is given to the makers. This is such a film. The Zoya factor is based on a novel of the same name written by Anuja Chauhan. The plot is kind of basic yet unique. Zoya Solanki , who was born on the day when India lifted its first ever cricket world cup is considered lucky for cricket by her cricket obsessed dad. But her life is a complete mess. It literally sucks. She has hard times at work , failed relationships and a lot of fuss to handle. She then goes to shoot an ad for the Indian cricket team and there she has her breakfast with the team and after that they magically win matches. This is not acceptable to the team captain Nikhil Khoda who
